Search Types:

  • Sort by number of animals: Sort by how many experiments were used to create the average gene expression. The more experiments / animals the smoother the volume is
  • Sort by structure metrics: Allows you to select a single region and search for genes using any of the listed metrics.
  • Multi-region search: Allows you to select multiple regions. You are only able to search using intensity and coverage. An example of when this might be useful is if you want to find which genes are highly expressed in one region while being lowly expressed in another.

Metric Definitions:

  • Overall: A weighted mean of the other metrics, focused mainly on specificity but with a small boost for genes with higher coverage and intensity.
  • Coverage: The percentage of this structure where the gene is detectibly expressed.
  • Specificity of Coverage: Compares the coverage of gene expression inside the region with the coverage in the rest of the brain.
  • Intensity: The average expression level of the gene in this structure.
  • Specificity of Intensity: Compares the mean intensity of gene expression inside the region with the mean intensity in the rest of the brain.
